Atlanta replacement windows FAQs

Are vinyl windows a good investment?

Yes, for a variety of reasons. First, they're the number one material choice for thermal efficiencies, which results in a reduction in your heating and cooling bills. Second, they're virtually maintenance free which eliminates painting costs. Our products offer a Lifetime Warranty. They are fully transferable to subsequent buyers and the warranty adds to the resale value of your home.

What is the difference between custom-sized or stock-sized windows?

You must have you windows custom-sized for the simple reason that they'll fit perfectly in the window opening. This prevents air and water infiltration. Most window openings are NOT square, plumb or level. Stock-sized windows are installed during new construction and are commonly referred to as builder grade windows. Custom-sized windows don't require any alteration to the interior and exterior of the home.

What are the various types of windows?

Several types of window materials are used during new construction: steel, aluminum, wood and builder grade vinyl. Aluminum windows have easily scratched painted surfaces and conduct heat and cold extremely well; in turn, making them extremely poor insulators. Wood windows rot, require constant painting and absorb moisture making them difficult to open and close. Usually, they're painted shut which can cause an emergency escape hazard. Vinyl thermo replacement windows are the material of choice to eliminate these problems. Vinyl is the number one insulating window material. Not only are vinyl windows highly energy efficient (Energy Star compliant), but they're also maintenance free.

What are the different methods of vinyl window construction?

There are two basic types:

  1. Mechanically fastened windows which are screwed, nailed or butted together (low cost design).
  2. Fusion-welded which is done through a heating and joining process (high quality thermo efficient design).

Should I get my windows installed professionally or try to do them myself?

This type of project is NOT something that can be done as a do-it-yourself. It requires special tools and equipment. Your replacement windows must be exact sizes. If they are not installed correctly, you can void the warranty, reduce energy efficiency, and even cause structural damage to your home. A trained, factory professional will help you avoid these problems.

What's the best way to replace my old and drafty windows?

You should first consider our custom-sized windows in order to accommodate your existing window opening. This approach will prevent extensive carpentry work that is very costly and inconvenient.

Are all vinyl window frames and sashes the same?

No. Some window manufacturers use the less expensive techniques making their frames brittle with a dull blue or gray cast (recycled vinyl). The windows we sell and install are made of 100% Poly Vinyl Chloride powder (PVC) with water-cooling techniques, enabling the best frames.

What energy-saving options should I know about?

METRO Home Improvement uses an Energy Efficient Package consisting of: Double Strength Glass, Solar Blocker LowE, Argon gas and low conductance seal. The Solar Blocker LowE glass acts as a barrier against ultraviolet rays which fade your carpet, furniture and window treatments. It improves the energy efficiency of any room. The Argon gas is colorless, odorless, nonflammable and non-toxic. It is a safe inert gas that helps to increase the energy efficiency of your windows, but also makes your home quieter.
